A DNA-based turn-ON sensor for cathepsin C, monitoring hydrolase activity inside cells. It can target the endosome and lysosome in J774A.1 macrophages and is relevant to several diseases such as Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome. In this figure (Dan et al., Nat. Nanotechnol., 2019), lysosomal cathepsin C activity is mapped in live J774A.1 cells.
